The final technical meeting of the BorPres project was organized by the Region of Western Macedonia on Thursday, October 18, 2023 in the city of Florina. The meeting was attended by representatives from the corporate structure of the project from Greece and in particular: the Region of Western Macedonia as the lead partner, the Ministry of the Interior (Macedonia – Thrace Sector) and ANKO Western Macedonia SA. The Republic of North Macedonia was represented by its Ministry of Interior (Ministry of Interior of Republic of North Macedonia).
The event was welcomed by Dr. Vasilios Ambas, Regional Councilor of the Region of Western Macedonia Responsible for Higher Education, European Programs and Water Resources Management and Mr. Theophylaktos Papadopoulos, Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior (Macedonia – Thrace Sector), both pointing out the enormous value of the strategic project in which will contribute decisively to the dynamic development of the Prespa area on both sides of the border.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Paraskevi Christopoulou, Head of the Department of European Programs, Smart Specialization and Innovation of the Region of Western Macedonia and Coordinator of the BorPres project.
During the event, the deliverables of the project were presented:
– of the Region of Western Macedonia by Ms. Andromachi Nastou, Management Consultant of the Region
– of the Ministry of the Interior (Macedonia – Thrace Sector) by Mrs. Constantia Dimitrakoudis, Employee of the Department of Co-financed Programs and Regional Development of the Ministry and Mrs. Ioanna Papaioannou, Technical Advisor of the Ministry
and presentation of the ongoing studies being prepared in the context of the project:
– of ANKO Western Macedonia SA. by Mr. Antonios Dimitriou, Head of the Energy and Environment Department of ANKO SA.
– of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia by Ms. Dragica Jolevska from the European Union and International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia and by Mr. Bujar Mucha, Architect and Mr. Milos Stokuca, Dr. Civil Engineer.
BorPres project with full title:
is financed by the Cross-Border Cooperation Program INTERREG IPA CBC “Greece – Republic of North Macedonia 2014 – 2020” and aims to open the border crossing between Greece and the Republic of North Macedonia in the area of the Prespa Pass to strengthen the ties between the two countries . The project has a strong development character that can safely lead to multiple environmental (Prespa, Ohrid), social and economic (tourism and agri-food) results for the benefit of the common cross-border area and the wider region (Ohrid, Prespa, Kastoria, Florina). The BorPres project is in the final phase of completing the studies for the border posts in Greece and the Republic of North Macedonia and is expected to be completed at the end of the year 2023.
