Project BorPres2 at a glance

This new crossing will dramatically reduce travel time between Lemos and Resen from over two hours to just 40 minutes.
Beneficiaries of the Project
Τhe Region of Western Macedonia (Lead Partner)
The Region of Western Macedonia leads BorPres2, coordinating the consortium, steering day-to-day management, and delivering the Greek-side BCP works and milestones across WP1. As the regional authority responsible for planning and programme management in Western Macedonia, it is uniquely positioned to orchestrate implementation at the Prespa border crossing.
Ministry of Interior of Republic of North Macedonia (PB2)
The Ministry delivers the Markova Noga side of the project by supervising reconstruction and upgrade works at the State Border Police Station and providing the required equipment, while also hosting public-facing actions to spotlight the reopening. As the national authority for internal affairs and public safety, it anchors the project’s construction, oversight, and visibility on North Macedonia’s side.
Municipality of Prespes (PB3)
The Municipality of Prespes constructs the Greek sections of the new cross-border hiking trail and co-produces the transboundary guide and map that connect key visitor points around Prespa. As the local authority on the Greek shore, it turns infrastructure into experience, linking places and people through an accessible “Prespa circle.”
Municipality of Resen (PB4)
The Municipality of Resen builds the trail sections on the North Macedonian side and helps shape a seamless visitor route that leverages the new BCP. As the local authority on the northern shore of the lakes, it extends the trail into a truly binational journey.
Ministry of Interior (Sector Macedonia and Thrace) (PB5)
The Ministry is responsible for the project’s communication and dissemination activities —website, social media, promotional materials and major public events (including the Philoxenia exhibition showcase)—to position the new crossing and the Prespa area as a unified destination. As the Greek state’s regional arm in Northern Greece, it mobilizes stakeholders and amplifies results across regional, national, and European levels.
