BorPres2 is an Operation of Strategic Importance (OSI), with a total budget of €7,727,272 and a timeline of 36 months, aims to enhance cross-border connectivity and stimulate economic development in the Prespa region through the establishment of a new border crossing point (BCP) at Laimos (Greece) / Markova Noga (North Macedonia).

This new border crossing point will dramatically reduce travel time between Laimos and Resen from over two hours to just 40 minutes, enabling greater cross-border mobility, stronger economic and cultural exchanges, and a boost in regional tourism. The crossing will support cars and passenger vehicles (up to 10 people), while excluding trucks and buses to protect the area’s fragile natural and cultural environment.
Key infrastructure developments include the construction of a new customs and police control building in Greece and the renovation of the existing police station in North Macedonia.
In addition to infrastructure, BorPres2 promotes eco-tourism through the creation of a cross-border hiking trail connecting Agios Germanos (Greece) and Brajčino (North Macedonia). Developed by the Municipalities of Prespes and Resen, the trail will highlight the region’s most remarkable natural and cultural landmarks, offering visitors a unique experience.
The project is led by the Region of Western Macedonia, in partnership with the Hellenic Ministry of Interior (Macedonia-Thrace sector), the Ministry of Interior of North Macedonia, and the Municipalities of Resen and Prespes. The two regions on both sides of the border will increase their cooperation in a wider programming framework, namely the implementation of common projects in the field of rational exploitation of natural resources and the sustainable eco-tourism.
